Ground Infrastructure – GCN

The Foundation of Global Communication

Ground infrastructure is crucial to comprehending the full picture of end-to-end satellite solutions. Operating a robust Global Communications Network (GCN) of certified teleports, gateways, and redundant terrestrial links, SES Space & Defense delivers secure and reliable connectivity. SES Space & Defense uses the global reach of the GCN to connect remote and rural communities with microwave and wireless communication systems to provide mission-critical communications for military operations in theatre.

Microwave Networks

Connecting Beyond: Microwave Technology Defining Remote Connectivity

Microwave is a line-of-sight wireless communications technology that uses high frequency beams of radio waves to transmit video, audio, and data between two locations, ranging from several feet to several miles apart. Microwave offers customers reliable, high capacity, and low latency connectivity when fiber is not an option. Due to the scalability and flexibility of microwave technology, microwave is used for many enterprise applications such as disaster recovery, telemedicine, distance learning, network redundancy, temporary connectivity, and rural broadband.

SES Space & Defense provides communications to over 100 sites across Alaska and operates, as well as maintains an extensive microwave network consisting of 19 microwave towers spanning over 600 miles of interior Alaska providing reliable communications to underserved communities.
